Really Simple Syndication (RSS)

RSS is becoming gradually more popular and more widely used on the Internet. The E-Future Centre has an RSS feed, but what is it?

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is used to broadcasts updates of websites to subscribers. RSS uses XML code to scan a website for new or altered content. If new or additional content is found the RSS broadcasts to all the subscribers the updates. For a more detailed description of RSS read “What is RSS (Really Simple Syndication)?” at www.wisegeek.com.

If you are interested in becoming a subscriber to RSS feeds, like the E-Future Centre’s, you will need to use special software. The special RSS software is referred to as an aggregator. To find aggregators for Mac X, Windows or Linux click here.

Another way to keep up to date with you RSS feeds, especially if you are away from your computer is with an online feed aggregator. Bloglines.com helps you keep up with the latest from RSS feeds at any computer with Internet access. You can also set up your own blog, among other extras.
